Liberty Head Nickels

Also known as the "V" Nickel. Minted from 1883 through 1913, the first year of this nickel was often gold plated and passed off as $5 gold coins because it did not have the word 'cents' engraved on it. To combat the counter-fitting, 'cents' was added back on later in the year.
